Horizontal management at FMB: a powerful lever for boosting company performance

Always on the lookout for new ideas or trends to maximize not only the company's productivity and profitability, but also the well-being and happiness of its employees, FMB applies the main principles of what is now known as horizontal management.

Horizontal management practices are designed to break down the hierarchical barriers of an organization and foster collaboration within it.

Thus, the establishment of a collaborative decision-making process is one of the practices of horizontal management.

To this end, FMB employees are involved in the company's strategic decisions and put forward their ideas, regardless of their level of seniority.

Influential and supportive leadership is provided by the team leaders in each department, who make up the management committee. Day-to-day horizontal decision-making on plant management issues simplifies communication, since the entire FMP team knows what's going on within the company.

With horizontal management, a manager’s role is radically different.

They move from being a manager and decision-maker to being a coach. They must avoid being authoritarian in order to earn the trust of their teams, create close bonds and thus ensure employees’ natural commitment and genuine motivation.  Here, managers support, help, listen, encourage autonomy and value everyone's contribution.

At FMB, we're convinced that horizontal management improves well-being at work, team solidarity, employee fulfilment and a feeling of inclusion.

The same applies to the development of a shared learning space, which aims to develop tools that encourage collaboration and exchange of ideas.

Values such as benevolence, autonomy and initiative frame all these collaborative practices. Collaborative management puts employees at the heart of the company. Indeed, managers put the well-being and fulfilment of their operational team members first.

A happier employee will also be more productive and efficient in their work, which in turn will help boost company performance. With horizontal management, FMB is also becoming more agile: teams are more proactive and dynamic, and their collective intelligence enhances the company's creativity and innovation, thus making it more competitive.  Horizontal management is therefore a powerful lever for ensuring a promising future.
